All the art here is painted with plant pigments made from roots, berries, leaves, and flowers!

Kestrel

I met this kestrel at the Big Bear Alpine Zoo. The background is an earth pigment. Plants used: blue spiralina, red sorrel, turmeric,  red onion, brown onion, black walnut.

Spooky's Table

Spooky, one of the cats at the urban farm, was a prison cat. Now, she's living the life of a happy and spoiled house cat.
She loves sitting on the table and watches me paint and makes sure my plant material passes her daily table checks.
Plants used: amaranth, coffee, blue spiralina, red sorrel, passionleaf, goosefoot.

Fort Tejon

Lola

My colleague requested a portrait of his dog, Lola. It was a treat to capture her likeness in pen and plant!
Plants used: turmeric, red sorrel, black walnut, blue spiralina, coffee, red onion, brown onion, earth pigment.

Sky Village Rooster

Nestled in Yucca Valley, CA, is a giant rooster greeting visitors to Sky Market Village, a vast whimsical desert swamp meet.
Plants used: ashwaganda, goosefoot, red sorrel, beet, green spiralina, blue spiralina, turmeric.

Owl

Like the kestrel, I met this owl at the Wildlife Learning Center in Sylmar, Ca. They educate the public about wildlife and it's a lovely zoo! Plants used: black walnut, goosefoot, turmeric, safflower, coffee, red onion.

Colleague's Pets

California Quail

These fun little quails frequent the mountains where I live. I would love to write and illustrate a story about them someday! Plants used: blue spiralina, red sorrel, turmeric, beet, black walnut, kaoli clay.
